Update - September 2022

Wow what a whirlwind year it’s been. I releases my new site late last year as a place for me to talk about things that interest me or what I have learned. The digital playground as I called it allowed for me to collate all things that I have been working on and gave me a place to experiment with new ideas and technologies.

Like most things it fizzled out after a few months when the cadence of post writing got too much. Today I decided that I will bring this back, while I don’t think I will hit a weekly post as I once I did I will be posting when I have something that I feel is worthy of a post. Anything else will be posts to my twitter timeline, you can follow along if you like, my handle is @ghevey.

Now that is out of the way the point of this post is to discuss what I have been working on and what is coming up for me. While I will aim to do one of these every three months, this cadence is not set in stone and may change depending on workload and schedule. Let’s see how it goes.

2022 - the year of gaming

2022 has been a busy year; Work has begun on our first game, Cade my Multiplatform arcade system has begun, updates to my site and I got back to investigating. It has been a busy year indeed.

Games, games and more games

As mentioned my partner and I began working on our first game together this year. We progressed passed and MVP for it and have begun full production of it. Nothing else to release here as of yet but I will be using my blog when I come across interesting tidbits while we develop.

I have also begun Cade my Multiplatform arcade system. I will do a post to go into more detail for this in the coming weeks but the initial CHIP-8 extension is booting games and work has begun on the the DMG extension for GameBoy and GameBoy Color emulation.

website updates

While there hasn’t been any visual updates to my site this year that doesn’t mean work has not been happening. I have struggled to keep the site up to date using a file based content strategy and CI/CD deployment. Earlier this year I decided to move to a more traditional setup and have added API and database support to my site. This got delivered successfully.

Investigating is back

It has been a good while since I have been able to investigate the paranormal but I with APIU were able to get back out there and investigate at the Ross Hotel. This was an interesting night and evidence review is now underway.

to end 2022

The idea is these posts is to not only provide an update but to also discuss upcoming plans. For the rest of the year I have three technical goals I want to hit. Continued updates to my site, GameBoy booting in Cade and good progress in our first game.

website client apps

Now that the content for the site can be updated through an API, my plan is to begin a client application that I can use to update the content. The plan is to complete the first release by the end of the year and will allow for posts and the content consuming section of my site. I have decided that this will be written in Swift and using SwiftUI. I have been looking for a reason to learn the language and this seems appropriate. I will discuss this in more detail closer to completion

Welcoming the GameBoy

As I mentioned work on the DMG extension for Cade has begun and my plan is to have This booting commercial games from the original GameBoy by the end of the year. GameBoy Color isn’t planned in this timeframe but is on the cards. You can follow along on GitHub or join the PlayCade discord.

Game progress

While the year is wrapping up, there are plans to continue making good progress on the game. I will be posting more about this as we get further along in the development, including the game’s synopsis and release timeframes.
